This is our final unit of work. Thank you for every effort you have made during these times.
I think we will all be glad to welcome the summer, I hope you and your families have a lovely and safe break. I have missed the children and I look forward to seeing them in September, I’m sure they will have grown in so many ways .
The English , Maths and Irish Activities from last fortnight may be carried over and continued.

You can play this against a member of your family.
Pick a letter of the alphabet , then race to find something in the house beginning with that letter, first one back wins .
Target
Set out 3 targets on the grass , assign an amount to each target eg 5 for the closest target, 10 for the next and so on . Each child takes 3 throws and writes down their scores , tally the scores at the end.

Parents and Children,
I hope you and your families are all doing well, thank you so much for all the work, you have been putting in over the last 11 weeks. We are now in the month of June and ordinarily would be enjoying the many fun activities that June brings, so for this month there will be a change in the layout of work, making it more fun and active with lots of oral activities, some written and a little revision .
Below is a list of suggested activities for English, Maths and Irish. It would be great if you could complete some of these activities each day. Some are written, some are oral, some are quick and easy and others may take a little time, some may be repeated and extended every day.

You may pick and choose what suits on a given day.
Maths
Children may complete any unfinished pages in their Busy at Maths Book.
Counting, a simple but very worthwhile activity, count forwards and backwards to 10 and beyond if your child is able.. Count on from a given number, count back from a given number, count on an amount from a given number, call out a number sequence and get your child to write the next number or the missing number.
Give your child simple number stories, totals to 10 .. Can they make up a number story of their own .
Pick a number and write all the ways to make it.
Write a list of sums totals to 10 (some correct some incorrect ) and get your child to correct them.
Maths in the environment, draw attention to shapes (how many different shapes can you find around the house/garden draw and label them if possible ) time ( draw your child’s attention to time, focus on o’ clock ) money (if possible allow your child to count loose change/order coins /set up shop ) weight and capacity ( involve your child when baking , measuring ingredients ) length (get your child to find the longest/shortest /tallest item in the house/garden , help them use their hand/foot span to measure , discuss the answers )

How many types of flowers/tree/bird can you find .. do you know their names.. could you draw and label them .
Record The Weather for the Week , draw and label your weather symbols.
Make a paper aeroplane and fly it , how far will it go… measure using your foot span …

He jumped so high he touched the sky, and never came back till the 4th of July.
Create a simple dance routine
Make a treasure map of your garden .. find some treasure .. hide it in your garden , then make a map, don’t forget X marks the spot ! See if your mam/dad/sister/brother can find it.
Cotton Bud Art, draw a large butterfly use cotton buds to fill it in with lots of colourful dots/patterns.
Practice throwing and catching to 10, 20, 30…..
Have Teddy Bears Picnic , make name tags for all your teddies.
Take on an extra chore and be helpful around the house, tidy your bedroom, the toyroom, set the table…..follow instructions see them through.
Prayer Box , write or draw something you would like to pray for and pop it in your prayer box.
Practice a skill from your favourite sport, 20 mins/day. Hurling jab/roll lift, football pick up/solo, soccer dribbling, athletics running/sprinting.
Use cotton buds to make a 2D rocket/house/castle/train….

Maths Draw a clock … Draw a circle , draw a line down the centre and a line across the centre , these will help you to write the first 4 numbers on your clock. Write in the numbers 12, 3, 6, and 9, use you maths book to help… now fill in the other numbers ….You may need to try this once or twice before you get the hang of it. Now pick your favourite o’clock time ( 1o’clock lunch, 6 o’clock tea ,8 o’clock bed, …. ) and draw in the hands .. remember for an o’clock time the big/long hand points to 12 and the small/short handle points to the hour/number.

Maths Draw a clock … Draw a circle , draw a line down the centre and a line across the centre , these will help you to write the first 4 numbers on your clock. Write in the numbers 12, 3, 6, and 9, use you maths book to help… now fill in the other numbers ….You may need to try this once or twice before you get the hang of it. Now pick your favourite o’clock time ( 1o’clock lunch, 6 o’clock tea ,8 o’clock bed, …. ) and draw in the hands .. remember for an o’clock time the big/long hand points to 12 and the small/short handle points to the hour/number.

Thoughtful Thursday SPHE Do something nice for someone today, a brother, a sister, a parent, a grandparent a friend. Give a compliment, a word of thanks, a hug, a thank you note …. And remember when we do something nice for someone else not only do we make them feel better but we feel better also . Children will be familiar with the term bucket filler from the book “Have you filled a bucket today “ this is available on you tube if children would like to listen to it again.

Thoughtful Thursdays SPHE We are all adjusting to a new way of life, the uncertainty can be unsettling for both us and our children. It might help to just draw your child’s attention to some of the things we can be grateful/happy for during these times. This can simply be a chat with your child or if your child would like to make a list, start a” happiness journal” or even draw some pictures of things we are thankful for, hopefully it will help to keep their spirits up.
