Blue Group:
Wk 1: interrupt, healthy, President, phase, emotion, wrist, gigantic, secure, distance, yesterday
Wk 2: strawberry, coward, straight, notion, knuckle, alphabet, batteries, tomorrow, energy, bundle
Encourage your child to read every day! If they are finished their reader let them choose the books that they enjoy. Reading should never be a chore.
After they have read their book, show interest in what they have read and ask them about their book. Ask them to retell what happened in their story and recount some of the incidents. Can they make any predictions on what might happen next? Can they make any connections between the story and their own life (Horrid Henry’s aunt reminds me of granny a little bit because she dresses a bit like her and she always picks the cheese out of her sandwiched.) Can they make any connections between their book and another book they read (the girl character in this book is very like Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web because she is very clever and always looks out for her friends.) Maybe they didn’t enjoy the book at all? Can they explain why? Was the character annoying? Were the words too difficult/easy?
Children should also write everyday! The focus can be different each day.
Monday: Focus on handwriting. Copy a piece of writing from a magazine/book/letter and focus on keeping your letters on the line, keeping your tall letters tall (eg hltdkb) your small letters small (weruioasxcvnm) and your fall letters fall (qypfgjz.) Most of you will have a copy of the ‘Go with the Flow’ cursive script for reference in you r folders. Otherwise you can access it on the CJfallon website (available free to parents at the moment) – Put in ‘Go With the Flow Teacher’s Resource Book as your preference (pg 126 - It might be easier to print this out and have it to hand for future use)
There are also some handy sample practice pages (92-123) which might suit your child better
The font is even available from the cjfallon website to install on your computer
Tuesday: Focus on getting some wow words into your writing. Instead of using ‘boring’ words like bad or said. Use more exciting words like horrid, nasty, terrible or exclaimed, yelled, whispered.
Wednesday: Today I want you to focus on spelling! Don’t be afraid to use ambitious words when focusing on spelling. You can always check your dictionary! This is not cheating! Have an adult check your spelling after you are finished.
Thursday: Write a letter to someone you know! It might be a granny/grandad, an aunt/uncle a cousin or even a friend living down the road and give them a surprise by popping it in the post! Tell them all the antics you’ve been getting up to since lockdown. You might even get a reply!
Friday: Write a shopping list for the family for the week! Think about all the things you need and use each day and put it on the list. Don’t forget to put some treats on it and fingers crossed they might make their way into the shopping trolley!
Maths:
Challenge yourself with a different challenge/level/speed as you improve.
Gaeilge:
There are some lovely resources on the Séidean Sí website (https://www.seideansi.ie/). Keeping in mind Séidean Sí is a resource designed for Gaeilscoileanna and schools in Gaeltacht areas therefore your child might want to start with some naionán bheaga activities and work up from there to find a level suitable for him/her.
Make sure the canúint is set to the Munster dialect
Roghnaigh do chanúint (upper right hand corner)
Roghnaigh ‘An Mhumhain
Choose an activity that interests your child, there are some nice visual cluichí on the Naionán Bhega page and some nice reading activities on the Naionán Mhóra page. You can read the story together with the computer and do the activity associated with that book. There is also a lovely activity for ‘Rang 1’ that your child might want to have a go at.
There is also a lovely page setup on facebook called ‘Scéalta le Chéile.’ This page is aimed towards children who are based outside of gaeltacht area and takes into consideration that there might not be a high level of Irish inside the home. She reads some familiar stories and uses lovely simple Irish in doing so much like would be used in the classroom. She also has some science experiments and quizzes that the children can do.
Otherwise continue with DuoLingo Kids if you have already downloaded it or have some more Scavenger Hunts around the house increasing the volume of words or the diffictulty each day!
Visual Arts: Drawing can not only help your childs creativity but will improve their motor skills, penmanship, confidence, imagination etc
There are some very easy step by step drawing lessons on youtube.

- Challenge your child with a different addition problem (eg 48 + 27) and subtraction (R2) problem (72 – 28) every day. These are multi-step problems so require plenty of practice and reinforcement.
